Baril Bay Camp 1968

Jim Pascoe, Jr. - 1986

In 1968, Jim Pascoe Sr. purchased a piece of land once used by a lumber company to transport logs to the Canadian National Railway from Baril and Lac des Mille Lacs lakes. He saw something special in the surrounding wilderness and knew it had the potential to become more than just a passageway for timber.

By 1972, after years of hard work, Jim and his wife Betty transformed that remote property into a fishing camp nestled in the heart of some of the best angling waters in the region. For more than two decades, Jim and Betty, along with their three children, Molly, Amy, and Jim Jr., ran the camp alongside their Ely, Minnesota-based outfitting business. Three nearby, unnamed lakes were eventually named after their children: Molly, Amy, and Jimmy Lakes, all of which are still fished and enjoyed by our guests today.

In 1995, with retirement on the horizon, Jim Sr. sold the camp and outfitting business to his longtime partner.

Fast forward to 2016, Jim Pascoe Jr., who grew up working beside his father, had the chance to bring the camp back into the family. With that, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of once again running Baril Bay Camp.

Today, Jim Jr. and his wife Krista share their time between the camp and their home in Superior, Wisconsin. They have three adult children—Jon (32), Missy (29), and Hannah (27) and a loyal black lab named Cedar. Jon and his wife Kalie recently welcomed their son Eli George, our newest little fisherman. Like many families, we stay busy, but always find time to enjoy the outdoors together.

Jim Sr. passed away in 2024 with his family by his side. His legacy lives on through the Baril Bay Camp and the countless memories made here by generations of friends.
